|
|
Hi all, I experience the following situation. I logout from KDE (KDE 3.2.0) and I am on the terminal. I do a halt and the the usual shutdown process is carried out. When all is done, a 'Power is down' message is printed but the the computer is still on. After the above message, the console is still active. Is there some extra thing I need to configure?
Thanks,
Paul. |

Try adding support for power management in the kernel. That fixed it for me. |

My kernel (vanilla 2.4.24 sources) has already been compiled with power management support. However neight ACPI nor APM has been enabled. Do you think I need to enable either one of the 2? |

Just select Power Management support and Advanced Power Management BIOS support, that should do it, you don't have to select any of the options under it. |

I don't know how stable ACPI is in 2.4 but if you have it, I would suggest enabling it INSTEAD of APM. |

I had a problem with this too and it turned out to be a BIOS setting that changed the way format the BIOS expected for the power off code. Once I switched that out powering down started working, so if you're sure you've got the kernel set up properly make sure to double check your BIOS settings. |

I recompiled the kernel with Advanced Power Management BIOS support as hensan suggested (without selecting any other options under it) and it worked like a charm
