Code:

ls -sh /boot/kernel-2.4.25-gentoo-r2
1013K /boot/kernel-2.4.25-gentoo-r2

I always thought my kernel is too big, but now it seems it is not too bad.

Thats because the 2.6 kernel are much bigger than 2.4. Heres my old 2.4 kernel

$ ls -sh bzImage
907K bzImage

Hehe...

Let´s say you compile all stuff avaible in your kernel (if that´s possible).. How long would it take to boot ? Anyone tried this ?

Allright, I was not aware of that. But it is quite an increase - 40% in your case. I know that size does not matter much - difference betwen 1M and 3M kernel is negligible (in term of used memory) unless you have low end system with tiny memory.
But I guess the extra code has its puropse and it brings performance improvemnets (I have not tried 2.6 myself, but people see to like it a lot).

Perhaps a lot of extra code comes from ALSA integration?

1270 KB of kernel (2.6.5 vanilla) and 1328 KB of modules, thanks to some bulky stuff like ALSA, reiserfs, and udf. It would be 540 KB without those three.
