Hi,
when starting my gentoo, i get the errormessage
can´t locate module /dev/rtc
can´t locate module /dev/misc/rtc
does anybody know how i can repair this?
After my second gentoo installation I solved errors like this by correcting the rc.conf file.
But i didn´t found a place where I can correct the error above.
thx for help! |

CGN_Gentoo,
Did you choose the Real Time Clock (RTC) modules when you made your kernel ?
Try Code: | grep RTC /usr/src/linux/.config | you should get something like Quote: | CONFIG_RTC=m
CONFIG_GEN_RTC=m
CONFIG_GEN_RTC_X=y
CONFIG_SND_RTCTIMER=m |
If they say "is not set", reconfigure your kernel then do and Code: | make modules_install
| You can modprobe the missing modules or reboot. _________________ Regards,

Hi and thnx for your help,
does reconfiguring the kernel mean, that i have to completly build a new kernel like i did when installing a new gentoo system? Or is there a another way. Could you please tell me where i can find a manual text.

CGN_Gentoo,
When you reconfigure your kernel, you *may* need to rebuild it again.
If you have only added modules (not said 'Y') to any new questions, its is safe to do Code: | make modules
make modules_install | You can then modprobe the new modules.
If you have said 'y' to configuring things, or changed from 'M' to 'Y'. You need to do the whole lot and install the bzImage again.
In effect, 'Y' means put the code in bzImage, 'M' means put the code in /lib/modules/<kernel_version> and 'N' means you don't want it at all.
Some good get you going reading is /usr/src/linux/README and the content of /usr/src/linux/Documentation/ _________________ Regards,
