Hallo
ich habe als Newbie habe mir mal einen neuen Kernel konfiguriert, kompiliert und installiert. Vorher hatte ich gentoo-sources 2.4.20, jetzt gentoo-sources 2.4.25. Mein Problem ist nun, dass mein X-Server nicht startet, weil ihm fbdev fehlt, und zwar nur, beim Start mit dem neuen Kernel (habe den alten auch, starte über lilo). Wie kriege ich denn fbdev, so dass ich den X wieder normal betreiben kann?
Auffällig ist noch, dass beim Booten mit dem neuen Kernel die Auflösung beim Booten schon viel geringer ist, als beim Booten mit dem alten.
Ich habe eine Ati Radeon 9200, hat jemand einen tipp, wie ich die besser als mit fbdev laufen lassen kann? Hatte mir schon ati-drivers und ati-drivers-extra emerged, aber mit der Einstellung "radeon" in der XF86Config stürzt der Server unwiederbringlich ab, auch beim Neustart (ich muss dann sogar mit der gentoo-live-cd chrooten und die Config zurücksetzten, da ich nichtmal mehr zur Shell zurückkehren kann!)
Habe ich etwas beim kernel-updaten übersehen? Habe alles nach der Installationsanleitung gemacht...

Vielleicht musst du jedesmal wenn du deinen Kernel neu kompilierst, deine Graphikkarte neu kompilieren. Bei NVIDIA Karten ist das der Fall.
Wegen der kleinen Konsole. Hast du auch Framebuffer und diese Sachen gewählt? _________________ A! Elbereth Gilthoniel!

wenn du die alte config von 2.4.20 hast kopiere sie in das verzeichnis der neuen kernelquellen. dann machst du einfach ein "make oldconfig" und kompilierst dir nen neuen kernel |

da kommt der Newbie in mir durch:
Was Du schreibst kam mir schon in den Sinn, aber ich habe keine Ahnung:
Wo muss ich den fbdev (oder anderen Treiber) wählen? Ich habe die Option in "menuconfig" nicht gefunden... wo muss ich das sonst auswählen? Und: wie meinst Du "Grafikkarte neu kompilieren"? |

Der Framebuffer ist unter dem Menupunkt "Graphics Support" zu
erreichen und in dessen Untermenü "Console display driver support".
Ich würde Dir raten mit dem alten 2.4'er unter X "make xconfig" auszuführen, ist um einiges übersichtlicher. In diesen Abschnitten den "Vesa generic spport" und evtl. "Radeon support" (Hilfe dazu lesen!) aktivieren. Unter "Console display driver support" den Framebuffersupport aktivieren und die "VGA text console".
Wenn Du einen OpenGL Treiber von ATI installiert hast, mußt Du ihn erneut kompilieren, um das ATI Modul für den 2.6'er Kernel zu bauen. |

wenn ich "make xconfig" mit dem alten Kernel eingebe kommt dabei
wish -f scripts/kconfig.tk
make: wish: Command not found
make: *** [xconfig] Error 127
Und ich hab keine Ahnung, was das bedeutet
Sollte ich die angegebenen Optionen besser als Module, oder "fest" einbauen? |

Tja, ich auch nicht.
Also ich konnte bei mir noch nie den Framebuffer als Modul kompilieren, wäre ja auch nicht toll, eine Funktion beim Kernelboot aufzurufen die erst später mittels modules.autoload bereitgestellt wird.
BTW
Kann mir eigentlich nicht erklären warum Dein X nur mit Framebuffer laden möchte. Hast Du die ATI-Treiber eigentlich schon installiert oder nutzt Du die Xfree86-Teile?
Poste doch einmal die genaue Fehlermeldung und die XF86config.

und seitwann machst du make xconfig???
Starte lieber make menuconfig, so brauchst du keinen X Server, um den Kernel zu konfigurieren.
Nun, ich weiß nicht, wie es mit ATI Treiber zu machen ist, denn ich habe Nvidia. Wie hast du das erste Mal deinen X Server zum Laufen gebracht? Hast du Treiber dafür kompiliert oder so? Ich würde mich schnell daran erinnern und genau dasselbe tun, was du schon getan hast.

Wenn du fbdev nicht findest und sicher bist dass es ein Treiber ist, dann kann es sein, dass du dir ihn extra aus dem Netz runterladen sollst und selber installieren. _________________ A! Elbereth Gilthoniel!

Hallo,
Dank Eurer Hilfe läuft jetzt mein Kernel gentoo-sources 2.4.25 !!!
Leider allerdings immernoch nur unter fbdev mit Depth 16
Habe ati-drivers und ati-drivers-extra nach der Kompilierung neu emerged.
Wenn ich in der XF86Config als Driver "fglrx" eintrage, kann ich den X-server nur als root starten. Will ich X als normaler User starten, kriege ich wieder kein Signal auf den Bildschirm und kann nichtmal zur Shell zurück. Auch beim hochfahren startet X nicht.
Deshalb kann ich ja auch leider nicht mit einer Fehlermeldung dienen.
Hat jetzt noch jemand eine Idee??? |

Weshalb zeigst Du uns nicht einmal die relevanten Teile Deiner XF86Config? Sind die top-secret?
Beschäftige Dich auf jeden Fall mal intensiv mit der Suchfunktion. Häufig gibt es die ausführlichen, von Dir gesuchten Anleitungen bereits in mehrfachen Ausrichtungen, so daß sich einige Probleme viel leichter von Dir lösen ließen.

Hi,
ich habe mal wieder mit fglrx die folgende XF86Config-4 erstellt.
Zunächst funktionierte das ganze nicht, bis ich mal auf die Idee kam, das alte Monitorkabel (Sub) statt des DVIs zu nutzen.
Mit dem alten Kabel funktioniert es jetzt.
Weiß jemand, warum das so ist?
Sonst, VIELEN DANK an alle, die mir hier geholfen haben (und für ihre Geduld)!!!!

natürlich nur wenn Du eine Standart PC Tastatur Dein Eigen nennst.
Das Dein DVI Port nicht so richtig funktioniert könnte vielleicht folgende Ursachen haben:
