I installed gentoo and used the 2.6 kernel everything was working until xfree86 gave me an error saying it wont work on kernel 2.6 (I don't remember the exact error) then I ended up deciding that the best way for me to get it to work was to reinstall and use the 2.4 kernel well when i started to reinstall I found that I wasnt getting an internet connection. I then checked ifconfig and saw that the computer did get an ip address from my linksys router so i tried pining and i could ping the router but nothing beyond it but other computers dont have any problems accessing the internet through the same router. Did I do something wrong maybe not setup something correctly or what? |

That error was likely related to xfree-drm not being compatible with 2.6.x kernels. That is fine though, because the 2.6 series include their own DRI that works as well or better. If you are running modern hardware a 2.6.x kernel will most likely provide better support/performance than the 2.4 series. You simply install 'xfree' instead of 'xfree-drm'. _________________

Ok. Boot from the live cd, mount your gentoo partition like: mount /dev/hdaX /mnt/gentoo (where X is the # of your partition), then do "cp /etc/resolv.conf /mnt/gentoo/etc/"
That will take care of that problem. _________________
