If you follow the install guide closely you shouldn't have any trouble installing. As far as GUI installers go, I don't think there are any. I've heard of one before, but I can't remember what it was called and if it was ever released or not, although I may be wrong -- a google search should tell. |

There are no official Gentoo GUI installers. You might try the link Zyklon posted. There is also some effort being put into an Anaconda derivative. A search for anaconda or genanaconda will probably turn up the relevant thread. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Why would you need a gui installer?
for me the appeal of gentoo, is it's dificult ( not so much the second time) install process. I think even with gui installer i wouldn't use it, for that just pop fedora or mandrake in... _________________ thesis. |

Maybe you could tell us what king of problems you're facing?
When Installing gentoo, I often get problems during gui install with emerge so who knows, maybe there an easy solution that would avoid the use of other methods. _________________ "I am a humanist"

the problem is that those installers use rpm packages. (yes, rpm)...
these packages are precompiled, giving you absolutely no flexibility whatsoever. The whole point of using Gentoo is a slick, for-your-machine-only compiled and therefore fast system.
You can recomplile everything after installing though using emerge -eD world. |

Just throwing in my vote of confidence for the Gentoo install directions. They do work. Just follow them step by step and you will be ok.
Also the search feature of the forum and posting question in the forum will be your friend during install. It isnt impossible for someone completely new to Linux to successfully install Gentoo, I know someone who has done it.
Tip for install, know you hardware, exactly which network chard, exactly which chipset, CPU and video card and so on this will really help during the kernel phase. Also pay close attention to the direction for file systems, the kernel and boot loader.
And lastly patients, patients, patients, patients, Gentoo isnt the speediest install around but once you have an install or two under you belt you will be well on your way to learning Linux.

I did a stage one on my first install! it's not that hard, ( my previous linux experience was mandrake 9.1 installer, so none whatsoever, formated rightafterwards..)
