|
|
I just installed 2004.1 on my g4/800 with a geforce 440MX 64M card and after installing X the best resolution I can get it 8-bit 640x480. I did a manual kernel config during the install and I didn't see any separate modules for Nvidia cards. The confusing thing is the installer had at least 800x600 and was using the nv driver. I installed and ran xeasyconf and it won't go better than 8-bit. I know I won't get the most out of this card under Gentoo for now but I need to get at least 16-bit 800x600. Any help would be appreciated. |

Have you tried using:
I use roughly the same setup in my laptop, and I can use 1024x768 32. _________________ One design to rule them all, one design to find them

It's called "Riva" in the kernel configurations. Not sure what the state is of things with this driver now ... you may have to use the rivafb driver to get proper resolutions in X .. at one point it was the other way around as they didn't work together very well (you had to use ofonly video) |

I tried make menuconfig in /usr/src/linux and could not find "Riva" in the menus or submenus. Nor could I find "rivafb" . Are they installed as separate modules? |

I ran this and it produces a flickering display like the refresh is way to slow. |

I have the same card - the "nv" driver always worked best for me. I recall some notes from some emerge or another (kernel?) noting that rivafb was very broken on PPC for the time being.
You may also want to try manually editing your config file.
Do you have your framebuffer correctly set up? (Right resolution, etc) _________________ Osmos.org
