Hi
I have this new x problem that I have not personally encountered before. I have gennto installed and xfree emerged. after the xf86config set up(which i do so frequently on other distro and on my previous gentoo installations), an no screen found error was given when i do a startx. I do not understand why this problem occurs. I suspected my kernel(i menuconfig the 2.4.25 kernel) is not done properly, if so, which are the common pitfalls that I should be looking at and rectify? Going to redo the kernel tonight. TIA.
ps:My vga card is Nvidia FX5200, a P4 1.9G pc with ide hard disks. Dual booting with Windows XP. |

heard of xorg, but havent got enough guts to take on xorg now. maybe a couple of more months later, i will give it a spin.
sorry, my gentoo box is at home now, i cannot access it from my office. well, the xf86config is really quite straight forward setting of my hsync and vsync, choose nv as for nvidia driver, kb, imps/2 mouse, etc. I am not sure how the settings can gone wrong.
thanks for the advice so far. |

guys, the emerge nvidia works! thanks. Not sure why i have to do this to get it working though. But on the same night i hosed my gentoo installation by moving my root out accidentally. So i am back to where i have begun
Will wait for the 2004.1 now, no point spending time on 2004.0 IMO.
Thanks for the help anyway. |
