Compaq 500mhz install

I have a Compaq 500mhz. I have win2k running on it right now, and id like to move to gentoo, the min boot cd i made doesn't work, compaq doesn't see it. Is there anything i can do to make the PC see it?

have you tried changing the boot order in your system BIOS?

have you got the right cd? (not all gentoo cd's are bootable)
