When I flash my bios it only does about 95% of it. There is always a bit that doesn't get overwritten. The flash program shows me this in its incredible ascii art diagram.
I wonder what is the part of bios that doesn't get overwritten and is it possible to write to this at all?
I recently had a slew of viruses on my windows partion and I am having to reset my cmos everytime I boot. (ya i replaced the battery)...

I think it's the part of the BIOS that holds the "ultimate reset" data. i.e. reset to factory settings.

As Rainmaker said, plus there's tables of supported chipsets and CPUs and ACPI IDs etc. These tend to be in static places across BIOS builds.

I've only ever seen a system to a complete BIOS update once when using a flash utility, and that was when upgrading from V4.50 to V6.00 Award BIOS on a very old motherboard.

Generally if I want to ensure I have a good / clean BIOS and the chip is in a socket, I'll chuck it in an eeprom burner and deal with it there.
