|
|
Ive been playing with gcc 3.4 and have installed it on my main PC, while uninstalling the old gcc 3.3.
This broke a few backages.. mod_php and mysql, QT, KDE to name a few, I had to recompile them to make them work again.
So here are the packages in order, that you need to recompile if you want to use gcc 3.4 on a system that was compiled using gcc3.3
First off blackdown-jdk and blackdown-jre will no longer work, you will need to install ibm-jdk and ibm-jre.
these are the things you have to recompile in order..that is, if you have them installed.. if you dont have apache, or php, or mysql, etc.. installed you dont have to recompile them.
aspell
mysql
postfix
courier-imap
apache
libwww
freetype
sablotron
zlib
postgresql
nas
groff
xorg-x11(or xfree)
qt (need QT version 3.3.2, ebuild for it is included in this post, and you will need to download the QT tarball from trolltech and place it in to the distfiles folder)
mod_php
php
there may be others, but ive not got to them yet.. you will also need to reinstall all KDE packages by the way..
arts
kdelibs
kdebase
kdeadmin
kdeartwork
kdepim
kdeedu
kdegames
kdegraphics
kdemultimedia
kdenetwork
kdetoys
kdeutils
kdeaddons
kdeaccessibility
kde
Ebuild for the new QT
http://www.hydranix.org/qt-3.3.2.ebuild
Ebuild to make gcc 3.4 the only version of gcc installed, note this WILL breake some programs that have been compiled with 3.2 to 3.3 version of gcc.
GCC 3.4 introduces a new version of libstdc++ so any ebuild that you had that used the 3.3 version of gpp (c++) will have a libstdc++ not found error.. in that case you have to recompile that ebuild.
http://www.hydranix.org/gcc-3.4.0.ebuild
Good Luck, if there are any question or broken ebuilds that you found after installing this gcc version, post here

Hi
Good tip! Try submitting to Documentation, Tips and Tricks.
Will I notice any difference eg speed or size, if I change? And will anything be totally b0rked, beyond repair?

SkyPanther, there's already a (very popular) GCC 3.4.0 thread in this forum. It would be good if we could keep everything related to that in the same place. Please post this there instead. _________________ Reality is for those who can't face Science Fiction.
