livecd customizing?

Im trying to customize a livecd so it will run a distributed computing program on boot. But I cant mount it (the iso) in read write mode to add the files and edit the boot configs. any ideas how i would do this? is there a way to decompress the whole thing and recompress it after i make the changes etc...

i suggest building a new livecd, with catalyst, there have just been 2 threads about it. ask if you need help
