|
|
Hi.
I have a problem with my DVD burner in Gentoo. Its a [OPTORITE][DVD RW DD0401. The problem is when i'm burning it stoppes the writing every time I open a app, move a window around or do most anyting else and when I stop that it resumes the writing but the DVD is wrecked, it dos not play right after that !! The buffer bar in K3B shows no buffer wile writing.
My old DVD burner newer did this !! And thisone works fine under XP so its probably nothing to do with the burner being defected...
Any comments appreciated !!!
Using kernel 2.6.5
Thanks. |

Hey there,
I have an Optorite CW5202 which only barely works with linux. It used to work a bit better with a 2.4 kernel and scsi emulation. Now with 2.6 it is completely useless and I have removed it. The drive is definately not broken but their firmware just does not work well with linux. I would suggest that you go to their web site and check if they have a firmware upgrade you could download and install. That may help your drive. Unfortunately for me, I could not even flash my drive. I have flashed a Verbatim DVDrw/CDrw drive that was barely working before the flashing and now it works perfectly and I am quite happy about that.

Got the same problem with my brand new NEC ND-2500A DVD writer. Can't do a thing on my system while burning, every action will cause the burner stop writing. Fortunately my discs won't get unreadable, but I'd like to see the buffer doing it's job. |

I'm also in the market for a DVD writer, and one of the models I'm having my eyes on is that NEC ND2500A. So I'd be interested in other people's experiences. Alternatively I'm interested in the BenQ BW-800A. Or does anyone have another recommendation (in that price range)? _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln
