Ok, last night I got onto a tangent where everything has to look "sweet". While I am already employing mosfet's liquid and some cool backgrounds I wanted to go a bit further....
So I went to kde-look.org and got the Connectiva Crystal Icon theme (how sweet it is) and I also picked up the Connectiva Crystal Shutdown Pic and the Crystal Splash and the Connectiva "Crazy Penguins" (my name) KDM icons and I applied liquid to KDM as well. (Note that none of this has connectiva's branding on it)
Now everything is looking sweet except I can't, for the life of me figure out how to get a background working for my KDM.
I have set a background using the control panel in KDE (while logged in as root). But it just doesn't come up - instead I get the old "Not Managed" Grey Moirre of X.
Does anyone have this working???
It could be the way I am starting kdm - i just have it at the end of my /etc/conf.d/local.start script - does anyone know the "Official Gentoo" way of starting a display manager?
Thanks for any help! |

The official way is to edit /etcl/rc.conf, choose KDM from the list of window managers, and then do 'rc-update add xdm default'. Yes, XDM, not KDM. |
