isight/ ipod and lacie d2 (firewire in general)

For now, I switch from linux to macosx when I want to use my ipod and isight. I would like to stay always under linux if it's possible. Is there any way to use them under linux as easy (when it's configured

) as it is on macos x ?

Another point, how could we use firewire hard disk as usb harddisk : auto mounting when it's plug for example ? Any links or inform would be appreciated
