Need suggestion for expanding partitions

I have two partitions, 4 GB each, and one is hosting Gentoo (reiserfs), and the other Fedora (ext3). But my Gentoo partition is running out of space, and I think I'd delete Fedora to add some space to Gentoo. What would be the best solution, deleting fedora partition and expanding Gentoo reiserfs partition, or mounting fedora partition as /usr or something?

Any suggestion is highly appreciated

I think that safest solution would be to put /whatever on the fedora partition. Otherwise, make sure to do a backup before resizing! :wink:

I had good luck with qtparted. It is a partition magic clone. I cut my fat32 filesystem in half and added that to my /usr partition. Just be very careful and be sure you know what you are doing. Once you are sure, double and then triple check.

Take a look at the "SystemRescueCD" at http://www.sysresccd.org/ It's great, based on Gentoo and it contains the following software :

* GNU Parted is the best tool for editing your disk partitions under linux
* QtParted is a Partition Magic clone for Linux.
* Partimage is a Ghost/Drive-image clone for Linux
* File systems tools (e2fsprogs, reiserfsprogs, xfsprogs, jfsutils, ntfsprogs, dosfstools): they allow you to format, resize, debug an existing partition of your hard disk
* Sfdisk allows you to backup and restore your partition table

Can't you just resize the filesystem(s) and then the partition(s), with fdisk? That's what I do with ext2/3. Haven't used reiser yet though.
