Does anyone know any live-cd that has a anti-virus that can scan windows?

I have a friend that can't boot into his box ( windows xp), we think it's a virus.
so I need a live-cd that has a anti-virus (better if i can update it in order it to have the latest virus db)

Can anyone help me?

*I've found "LinuxDefender" but it seems that the development stoped, so it's no good :|

I think easiest way is to put your HDD into another winXP computer and do this virus scan there (or not to use windows anymore :P).

live CD with antivirus is pointles because after one week it's already too old. Also, if you want to use Linux to scan and repair files on ntfs - beter don't do that. I haven't tried this kernel ntfs module for long time but someone says, that it can still mess up all things on your disk..

If I can connect to the net, I should be able to update the software..
I don't want to connect his HD to my machine, because this friend lives something like 200 km from me, so I don't want to take his HD because I might do something to it.
and he has fat32 not ntfs, so that's not a problem.

so, can anyone help me?

put trend micro's sysclean and their pattern files on a disk, burn it and run a scan off of that...You'll have to copy the files to the local hard drive in order to run a scan.

Trend Micro sysclean package -

Trend Micro definitions file -

BitDefender had exactly what you want for free, but it looks like they took it from the mirror. Maybe you find it somewhere else.

The bitdefender live cd is available through bittorrent. They even provide a link in a readme file which is located on a ftp server (somewhat obscure if you ask me.)
Unfortunately the torrent seems to have died.
You can still get it via the Edonkey network. I've downloaded it already, but I havent tried it yet. Instead I came across a great little live cd, which is about 50mb in size, has a virus scanner, ntfs read/write capability, etc.

Ive tried it, it's very minimalistic, but functional. It runs a fluxbox desktop and it would help if you familiarize yourself with the apps it provides, before you try to fix your friends computer. It has quite a few command line apps which dont have a graphical frontend. Of course for a linux geek that should be no problem, but nonetheless, testing the waters before you jump in, is always good.

The virus scanner that they use is ClamAV by the way.
