Ok, I can setup ~/.openbox/rc to change the where the menu file is located(by manully inserting the line 'session.menuFile: ~/new_location/menu') but getting Openbox to use the menu I created other than usr/share/commonbox/menu is impossible. So is there a way to make Openbox not use the default location and use a menu I created in my user account? I can symlink the menu I made to usr/share/commonbox/menu but that's not practical for 2 or more users on one computer and everybody ends up using the same menu anyways. It seems that Openbox uses /usr/share/commonbox/menu for everybody on that computer and there is nothing you can do about it. BTW, In Blackbox I have no problem changing the location of the menu file and actually having Blackbox use said menu. |

OK, I finally got Openbox to see my menu(not the /usr/share/commonbox/menu). What got me going was that I realized that after you emerge Openbox it doesn't put a menu in ~/.openbox, I had to put it there myself. As soon as I did that and renamed the /usr/share/commonbox/menu(just to be sure Openbox wouldn't default to it) it saw it right away. After that all I had to do was emerge bbconf(which creates the ~/.blackbox/blackboxmenu) and symlink ~/.openbox/menu to ~/.blackbox/blackboxmenu I can now use bbconf(or any other bbtools) in Openbox. It only took me about a week and a half to figure out . |
