Problem with Totems audio

I am running Gnome 2.6 with GStreamer 0.8.1 and when i try to run an avi file in Totem, the sound comes out as a steady stream of fuzzyness. I hear nothing from the actual video im trying to watch. This has just recently happened, and im not to sure why. Any help please.

The codec that it is using is ffmpeg. I have the latest unstable version. I have tried both and nothing works.

Edit:
I also have noticed that the avi files do not work in xine. They do work in MPlayer though. So im completely stumped.
