Hi there,
i want to use LainOS as WM and i am just pondering, if there are any other users of this WM here in the forum.
When yes, what do you think of it ? _________________ Greetz

Someone told me to get a PC. When i got one, it was boring. Then i switched to Linux.
Someone told me to get a life, so I bought Quake.
Someone told me to get hobbies. Well, i had fun with my PC, so i became programmer. |

It's not ready yet. Just use (black, flux, or open) box until they get to a usable point. Until then, as I've posted in their forums, give this voice control program a try and you'll have something to brag about. |

What is it? The "about" page is so vague that I don't even understand their goals. They don't seem to have any concrete ones, at least. All it tells me is that they want to 'achieve the impossible'. Or something. |

They want to take FreeBSD as a core kernel and build around it a hyper easy to use operating system like the one in an anime series. I stumbled upon it as I was trying to convert my friend to open source and he wanted a computer like in the movies. So far the only thing they have is a hacked version of blackbox with transparacy and a broken task bar. They've got high hopes though. |

Bump.
The LainOS project will apparently work in various stages. First they will develop a Window Manager. Then a File Manager. Then proper bindings and utilities. After the desktop works on Unix based systems, they will begin the selection of the core operating system and develop it either based on existing technologies or from scratch.
I have no idea where I read this, but I know it to be a fact! I wish they'd put a new beta out, though. Has it been abandoned or something? _________________ I was a Gangster for Capitalism, by Major General Smedley Butler.

they also want to develop an X11 server with native opengl rendering
that seems a bit too over daring in my opinion..how many ppl are there anyway? |

Actually, I read some of the IRC logs on their site, and they want to develop WITH the X11 developers to make native OpenGL rendering a reality.

Currently it is a Fluxbox-like WM in Alpha. As I said, the project will develop the WM first, the File Manager second, a bunch of core utilities, and then the core kernel itself. _________________ I was a Gangster for Capitalism, by Major General Smedley Butler.
