I know this should probably go in some other forum, perhaps not even on the gentoo forums.

but I know you guys know a lot of stuff and I bet you can help me.

When I do a hub search, some of the results have weird hub names, and I can't download anything from them.

How do I fix this?

Those names are tiger tree hashes to uniquely identify files. They are getting sent to you from either BCDC or the latest DC++. Hashes are a great addition to the DC world, however since the original DC protocol wasn't made to be extended certain sneaky tricks had to be used to send the hashes. Personally I think you're receiving these from an older copy of BCDC (or one of its children) as I have a feeling they fixed that problem.

If you wanna know more information about dc++ and hashes go check out the dc++ forum at http://dcplusplus.sf.net/forum/ there are quite a few posts about it recently.

Unless dcgui-qt does something unusual with hub names then I see no reason this would stop you downloading off the users. However try find out what client they use, and maybe suggest an upgrade to them

dcgui-qt triest to connect to the hub with that name if you tell it to download the file

if you don't connect, you don't get the file. if you do connect, you can't connect since you are already connected to that hub..

The problem you're having is fixed in the cvs version of dc-gui. There should be a post about a cvs ebuild here:
http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/forum/

If not you can create one yourself
