|
Hi, i just installed via 2004.0 live cd, I used the 2.5 gentoo sources and I was wondering if I dont have the lattest stuff becuase I used the 2004.0 live cd and not 2004.1, or is that taken care of by updating portage and such? What is new on the 2004.1 and would it be worth it for me to reinstall using it? |

After emerge sync, you have the descriptions of the latest ebuilds available. Emerge will then emerge packages using this list.
To update your system do "emerge -u world" _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

But, basically if you don't use ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" (or whatever your arch is) the packages would be upgraded (or downgraded) to the latest version marked as stable. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Well, if you just installed using the 2004.0 cd, you will have done an emerge sync during the install. So updating won't do much, since you should already have the latest stable versions installed. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. wierd, i did
emerge sync && emerge portage && etc-update
and that update somethings then I
emerge (somethin)tools(something)
because ti told me I had to.
then,(because i wasnt sure)
etc-update
env-update && source /etc/profile
then I did
emerge -u world
and its goin through 17 ebuilds
Hopefully this will fix a lot of my problems.
but apparently how much stuff it has to do is not dependent on how long ago you emerged sync |
