Hey. I want to run Linux, and I was just wondering how the Live-CDs work. Could I just have Windows on my computer, and pop in the CD whenever I want to run linux?
If you could, explain it with some detail please. I'm very interested in getting linux. |

Well
With liveCD your can boot from CD(configuring your ROM to boot from CD) and have a funtional linux station conected to the network, if any.
Then you can install Linux from the CD and the Internet, so you can have a complete linux station booting from hard disk.
If you install Windows and left enought room on disk, you can install Linux on that space and hava a dual boot box, where you can select to boot from LInux or to boot from windows.
You can not jump directly from Windows to Linux on the CD.
I hope this answere your question.

I was just wondering how the Live-CDs work Code: |
In most cases you could have a live cd run from the cd without having to install ie mephis or PCoslinux. with gentoo, you can boot it up with livecd and then perform the installation like fdisk, then full installation of stage 1, 2 and 3 depending on your preference. hope this help. |
