i don't know, if you can resize an existing ext3 partition, but if you want one try LVM.

well thx again.

bute these are not the exactly same problems as I have.

I will try to:
-> copy all data from the / partition to a bigger partition running under WinXP.
then restart with the LiveCD -> resize the partition and formating of course.
then reboot with knoppix -> start samba -> recopy all data from the XP comp and try to reboot.

would this work?

thx

depends. you'd need fat to _securly_ copy you data to a windows partitition. winxp usually comes with ntfs, which i would not recommend trying to write to... i'm not sure about samba on this. if you used fat32 you'd not need samba at all. you will of course have problems with permissions, i'm not sure what samba will do to them. it's not a good idea, i'd recommend you do it linxu->linux copy or reinstall.

because of the permissions and so on.
the XP is FAT32....
Perhaps will I install Knoppix there and copy the files linux<->linux...

this have to be work or wouldn't it?

thx again :)

so you don't have a spare partition, you can copy the data meanwhile? you don't need to install ANY os to copy your data. just dl the minimal 2004.1 llivecd and follow the instructions in the thread i gave you the link to. there's no magic to it and it's working great. i've recently transfered 2 complete gentoo installations to other disks.

juhuu, it seems that it worked :)

i just tared all root directories (keep permissions...) fdisked the partition (liveCD) and tared the directories back :)
chrooted to the partition -> lilo returned a "Warning"
restarted and entered gentoo -> executed lilo again and there was no error.
this whole process took 1,5h -> 5GB.

thx
