Hi All,
I'm very much a noob but I've decided to try gentoo... A> Because it will force me to learn about linux and B> I like the idea of knowing everything that's installed and it's optimised for my pc.

In my system I have 2 phyical HD's:-

Drive 1
C: Win XP ntfs
D: ntfs
E: ntfs

Drive 2
F: ntfs
Ext3 (13G) with MDK10

I have an Athlon XP2500+ and plan to use the 2.4.x kernel so that I can use my speedtouch usb (green) modem.

Qestion 1: How would I set up Grub if I were to install gentoo to the Ext3 partition of the 2nd HD? At the moment it had mdk10 on and is a single partition / I will partition it as suggested in the gentoo installation manual.

Question 2: I would like to keep mdk10 on this partition. I'm going to reinstall it before installing gentoo. But How should I partition to enable 2 versions of linux? Which partitions can be shared between them and which should have their own partitions?

Thanks in advance ;)

ok here we go:

>root (boot partition)
>setup (hd1)
>quit

#nano -w /boot/grub/grub.conf

GRUB.conf:

Code:
default 0

timeout (amount of time you want in seconds)

splashimage=(boot partition)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title=Gentoo Linux 2.6
root (your boot partition)
kernel /kernel-2.6-gentoo root=/dev/hdb(root partition)

title=Windows XP
rootnoverify (win xp drive)
chainloader +1

hummm....i like the 2.6 kernel, if your modem isn't supported i suggest getting a new one that is ( but thats just my preference :wink: )
