gentoo-sources
pcmcia-cs
kde (no longer painful, thanks to distcc!, and yes the whole thing)
firefox
amap
driftnet
dsniff
hping
nbtscan
nbaudit
nessus
net-snmp
kismet
ethereal
nmap

With all those silly services off, including setting X up with -nolisten tcp, a quick nmap scan shows no good fingerprint. My box has shown up as a generic linux 2.4-2.6 build, and even a Belkin Router!

Since I am doing the audits, and not serving web pages, this is good. Someday I will get around to using a more lightweight window manager.

Oh, and I do start from stage3, just no time to get into stage 1 builds. Someday.
Cheers-

Right after stage 2 (emerge system step), I emerge vim.

Then, the kernel and the other required stuff.

Now, after I boot into my kernel:

Code:
1) xorg-x11 // recently replaced xfree
2) the binary ati drivers
3) numlockx // i put it in my xinit
4) imwheel // also in xinit
3) fluxbox // it's small, no deps, and from here i can install the rest of my system from x
4) the binary firefox 0.8 build
5) the binary thunderbird build
6) gaim
7) xchat
8) cvs
/* now I log into the mozilla cvs server, pull the current trunk source tree,
and build myself a nice current optimized svg enabled firefox, and an optimized
thunderbird */
9) gvim // I actually do this right after fluxbox, but I don't wanna redo the #'s
10) gnome
11) folding@home (team 13854!!)

This way I have a nice fully functional system with a wm, so I can browse the web while I build mozilla firefox and thunderbird manually and emerge gnome and all it's deps.

As soon as my firefox and tbird builds finish, I extract them to opt, delete the old folders, and rename the new folders to match the old folders (and create new profiles). I also import my bookmarks file and cookies file from their floppy.
This way, firefox benefits from it's startup script in /usr/bin, and i can still remove them by unmerging.

other misc packages I use religiously, that get emerged in no particular order:

Code:
bluefish
mplayer
xmms
abiword
bittorrent-theshadow (now bittornado 0.2 ~x86)
enemy territory
ut-goty
other games
