|
|
Hi,
I'm trying to install PowerPC gentoo 2004.1 directly from the LiveCD (install-ppc-universal-2004.1 and packages-g4-2004.1, the packages and stages on the LiveCD are marked with 20040412).
I don't want to use network and download all packages from net, I want to use the builds/ sources directly from CD. It's my first installation and when something goes wrong I don't want to download everything again each time I re-install the thing, because I have a traffic limit.
The life cd boots well. And I followed the handbook exactly step by step (except the optional network installation (paragraph 3).
When using stage1 it fails on
# cd /usr/portage
# scripts/bootstrap.sh
because it cannot access the net.
And when using stage2 it fails on
# emerge system
because it cannot access the net.
I also checked with "emerge info", but the local paths are set correctly.
Now i have no clue how to continue. Either the manual misses something or the LiveCD build is broken (when extracting the stage<x>-20040412 tarballs then I always get a "tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors" msg in the end, because a few files have failed - probably some /dev/<x> things... but it goes to fast to actually see anything).
Hope someone can point me to a solution for my problem.
regards,

Doing a networkless installation from the LiveCD requires Stage3. It's mentioned somewhere inside the handbook. I had the same situation until I realized what I had to do by studying the handbook more closely. |

that could be, I didn't tested stage3. I'll try it out now and hope it will work. Thx for the tip.
