I am running Gentoo 1.4_rc1 and need the gcc-3.1 compiler for one problematic application that doesn't want to compile in gcc-3.2. Is there a way to install gcc-3.1 along side gcc-3.2? When I do emerge -p gcc-3.1.1-r1.ebuild it returns:
[ebuild U] sys-devel/gcc-3.1.1-r1
The "U" is scaring me because I'm thinking it will blow away 3.2 in the process. Anyone have any words of wisdom for this newbie? Can I emerge gcc-3.1.1, compile my app, then emerge gcc-3.2 again to return the system to a nominal state?
Thanks! |

Sounds like a very risky proposition to me. No way to fix the app that won't compile with 3.2? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

rac,
I don't have a programming background and the thing is spewing out errors like mad when I compile under gcc-3.2. I guess I could wait until the developers bring the app up to date with 3.2. |
