I just installed Gentoo (yeah!), and got everything up and running for the most part (X, fluxbox, my favorite apps, etc.).

Problem is, whenever I first enter any session (fluxbox), I move my mouse around but my pointer just sits in the middle of the screen motionless. It always take about 3 seconds before it "unfreezes" and starts to move around with the movement of the mouse.

Thanks,

Steve

And while I'm talking about my mouse (logitech cordless MX 770?), I was wondering how to get the scroll wheel to work.

Thanks again,

Steve

add to /etc/X11/XF86Config (or whatever your X config file is)
in section Input Device for your mouse:
Code:

Option "ZAxisMapping"   "4 5"

I had this same problem. It seems that XFree isn't able to autodetect the mouse protocol properly with a 2.6 kernel. The fix is to change the mouse protocol in XF86Config from Auto to to whatever protocol is right for you, in my case ImPS/2.

Hey Hiel!

LOL...I don't know what it was, but everything seemed to work out this time and I actually got it all installed. I kinda caught me by surprise.
