|
|
I recently installed Gentoo (kernel 2.6.5) on a new box (AMD64) and want to set it up as a print server. I have a HP Officejet 6110 and having used it with Suse Linux have a pretty good idea of what drivers and packages it requires.
I was able to successfully merge "samba", "hpijs" and "cups". When I tried to merge "hpoj" I received the following message:
Calculating dependencies
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "hpoj" have been masked.
!!! possible candidates are:
- net-print/hpoj-0.91-r2 (masked by "keyword)
- net-print/hpoj-0.91-r3 (masked by "keyword)
!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.
Does anyone know why the ebuilds are masked? Is there a way to work around this problem and still use portage to install hpoj or should I just download the source tarball and install it by hand?

Certain packages are masked because they are not known to be stable.
To get around that you can emerge /usr/portage/net-print/hopoj/hpoj-0.91-r3.ebuild
If it's stable don't forget to report it as stable on bugs.gentoo.org _________________ If God has made us in his image, we have returned him the favor. - Voltaire |

Thanks for your response. I went ahead and installed hpoj as you suggested. The good news is that the printer function of my Officejet works perfectly. The confusing part is that even though my device is recognized and setup by ptal-init, sane-find-scanner can't see it and reports no USB scanners found.
I am using kernel 2.6.5 and have no option to configure scanner support i menuconfig. I read I should be using "libusb", which I emerged successfully but doesn't seem o have made a difference. The only thing showing under /dev/usb is lp0.
After I installed libusb I re-installed hpoj, xsane and sane-backends to make sure they would all work with libusb. This doesn't seem to have made a difference either.
Any ideas for what I should check next?
Thanks in advance. _________________ Athlon-64 3000 on Asus K8V SE
