I've tried everything , when I boot with 2004.0 livecd and I type : gentoo doscsi ( only scsi on that thing ) the process hangs when searching for an avansys... The server config : Dual PIII 600 , 512RAM , and 2HD ( 17G ) put in sripe and PERC 2 /Si is active, on the second scsi 2 cdrom-drives ( both scsi-plextors ) I tried with noapic, noraid, nohotplug param. No good
Can somebody help me with that problem .
PS: I read on the postings that you can boot from a knoppix cd ( for better hardware detection ) and then install gentoo. but can somebody link me to or explain to me in Noob language how you can do that?
Greetz and thanks in advance _________________ Never underestimate the power of LInux |

1) download & burn knoppix
2) boot from knoppix cd
3) setup networking if you're not using dhcp
4) setup partitions on hard drives
5) mkfs
6) download stagex-date.tar.bz2
7) unpack stage
8 ) chroot
9) follow the install guide |

If you look at the Gentoo installation handbook it should help you understand how, and where to extract the stagex file to. Once you extract the stagex file then just follow the rest of the instructions and you should end up with a nice Gentoo system |

I downloaded the version 2004.1 and started with gentoo doscsi, recognises the PERC 2/Si Raid --> DEV/sda Just one little thing : no NIC autodetected , solved with insmod ..... eepro100 and everything works smoothly withhout using Knoppix.
Earlier I tried with 2004.0 with smp dossci , no succes ( I have 2 procs )
Is there a difference between 2004.0 and 2004.1? Or smp doesn't recogn. the RAID module??
Thanks for all the suggestions , and see ya _________________ Never underestimate the power of LInux |
