Sorry for the duplicate post but I had posted this same message in
Kernel & Hardware and never got a reply.Perhaps I'll have better luck here.
Anyway,I decided to reinstall ut2k4 and try out the latest patch. Also have a few other fps games such as ut classic installed with the same problem. The mouse is lagging so bad I can't seem to aim worth a darn. The mouse is constantly doing one of these two things:
1. Speed erratic while moving the mouse left or right really fast.It speeds up on some turns and slows down on others.Sometimes won't turn at all.
2. While moving the mouse the screen becomes so jerky that that it gives me a major headache in seconds.I might as well have my monitor's refreshrate set at 35hz.
Even the in game "mouse smoothing" or reduce mouse lag" doesn't make much of a difference.I play all fps games really fast and need movement to be precise.Really ticks me off when I shoot at an enemy 10 times in a row and hit them only once.
Hardware:

Iknow that usb uses more system resources than a ps2 but it shouldn't be causing this much trouble.
Does anyone have any suggestions? If more info is needed then I'll be happy to provide it. _________________ "Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing." Albert Einstein |

listed in order of what I would try:
it may be faulty hardware, dirty mice do that, try a different known working mouse (get a buddy to loan you his for 10 minutes).
is it wireless? that could be a big problem, get a good corded mouse instead for gaming, cordless mice have always become shoody for me
try a different mouse protocol,
I use ExplorerPS/2 with my usb mouse with no problems (its a microsoft explorere with 7 buttons working), X doesn't really care if it is usb or ps/2
as my last ditch try uping your mouse resolution I use '1200' although I think my mouse doesn't have that cability it doesn't hurt anything
As for the screen try enabling vsync, it sounds like you have tearing issues
good luck,

My mouse works just fine in winxp with the exact same games and the exact same settings. No jitters, no slowdowns or pauses and no temporary speedups.Of course this is under DX9(ut2k4).I do have some speed issues in DX8 but not with the mouse.

Really?Didn't know that.I think it has more to do with the usb drivers than anything else.Still,it is an option worth trying.

Tried it already and no change at all.Mine only does 500.Anything higher won't make a difference.

Nope, no tearing at all.Its definitely the mouse causing all that nasty screen jittering.
If the protocal change doesn't work then perhaps I'll play around with different kernels and see where that leads me.Ii could just be something in the ck-sources that is causing this _________________ "Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing." Albert Einstein |

Well I changed my kernel to a plain 'ol vanilla 2.6.8.1 and everything seems a lot better now.Still isn't perfect but at least my games are playable now.
Thanks for the reply Rodent. _________________ "Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing." Albert Einstein |
