I am using gentoo-sources (kernel 2.4.25) here

I got a DEVFS is not setted in my kernel when the system boots, and a message saying I must recompile the kernel for it...

What should I include in the menuconfig for this?

I did:
File systems -->
[*] /dev file system

and the message perssists...

can you help me?

you probably need to enable "/dev mount at boot" or append the correct devfs mount option to lilo or grub (check the install guide for this)

if you used genkernel, you need to make sure lilo or grub knows about your /boot/initrd-2.4.25

hope this helps

have you set it to automaticly mount at boot, made it fully and copyed it over to a mounted /boot also mind if i ask why you dont try a 2.6 kernel they are pretty rock solid

really?
I had a bad experience trying kernel 2.6 when I was using fedora a week ago, I found no way to make my ati-radeon work on it

But here using 2.4.25 I having the same problem, I think I will try to make all work here in 2.4.25 an them change for 2.6

Just a question, If I want to change from kernel I just need to emerge it and compile it?

I will see the menuconfig again and try to make it work, I´ll back soon hehe

another question:
If I emerge kde for example, and them I make a change in the menuconfig and recompile my kernel, I need to emerge kde again?

devfs has been obsoleted by udev: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/udev-guide.xml

If you don't want to recompile your kernel, emerge udev...

Edit: no, you don't need to recompile KDE. Some packages do require to be recompiled after swtching kernels. Some examples are win4lin, nvidia drivers and ALSA

ok, I will try this emerge udev now

I´ve just recompiled the kernel here
I´m sure the /dev file system was checked
I´m sure the auto mount at boot was checked
and this time Ive checked the devfs debug too...

But, the message persists at the boot :(

ive never got my radeon drivers working point blank but i have funny hardware, even the 2.5 kernels i tryed were pretty good and i would bet it was a redhat thing rather than the kernel, it has been official since december.

as to changing kernel just emerge it, change the symlink and enter the options then make it and coppy it over like in the manual
