FIXED! I just added the following line:
'mount -t devpts devpts /dev/pts'
to my /etc/conf.d/local.start file.
Hi,
I'm running KDE 3.1.4 and get the error "Unable to open a suitable terminal device." whenever I try to have more than 2 terminals open. This happens as both root and a regular user.
I read through the boards and the recommended solution to that was to make sure Unix PTY was compiled into the kernel, but I checked and it already was.
Can anyone give me a hint as to what the problem is?
Thanks.

Directly below that option, check that you have a sufficient number of 'Unix98 PTYs in use' - I have mine set to 256, which is the default. |

Yes, it's set at 256. Thanks for the suggestion though. |

One last bump in the hopes that someone can point me toward even an idea about what's wrong. |

The original author of the post edited it to indicate how he fixed it - did you notice the solution? Does that work for you? |

:: BUMP ::
Anyone? I'm getting desperate - XTerms look so crap compared to the konsole.
INFO - 2.6.5-Gentoo-R1 + KDE 3.2.1 + UDEV (latest on AMD64)
It works if I open an xterm, but then opening a konsole gives me the "psuedo teletype" shit, and if I try to create anything at all inside the the /dev/pts/ directory it goes permission denied - even as root! Currently in there is just a file called "0".
