Ok so Gentoo was named after the Gentoo pengin, pronounced jen-two. Teh fact the the Gentoo logo is a big "G" doesn't bother me, but why on the http://www.cafeshops.com/cp/prod.aspx?p=gentoolinux.2457796stainless steel mug is there a picture of a cow?
Also could someone please show me how to make text clickable, I've tried using Mug, like most other bb's use, but it doesn't seem to work. _________________ Plug and Play, more like Plug and Pray |

That page still doesn't answer the question. It shows that the Cow is a metaphor for the Gentoo developers, and their frustration with current Linux distros. But browny wants to know why would Gentoo Linux, in a penguin filled linux world, and with the distro name being a small, fast penguin, would they pick a cow. |

Have you people got a problem with cows or something?! Cows have a long and storied history in computer science! Mainly because they look goofy.
When I was doing a senior SE project at university, we had 500 small, squishy foam cows made with the product logo on the back. I still have a few of them ( that weren't eaten by my younger relatives ). Cows are the rock!

The question, young grasshopper, is not "why", but rather, "why not".
Seek the answer, and you will find true salvation.

Yes, yes i did say why a cow on the mug, but I didn't realise at the time that there were cows all over. Although my question has now been answered I'm still not happy, and am just going to put it down to being a cow cos some person had a random thought. _________________ Plug and Play, more like Plug and Pray |

I don't understand the cow either. I would have preferred an actual gentoo penguin because they kick ass and have a cool name. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Cows rock.
We should put a "Do you love cows?" question in the install cd, requiring to answer yes to continue the installation ;). _________________ IM me at tuxisuau@jabber.7a69ezine.org |

Well, cow is one of the symbols of the Netherlands and they look quite proud about it. About the price of milk in China, it is probably raising because they don't have enough cows.

BTW, does Gentoo have many developers from the Netherlands? | Thats not entirly true.
there are like 75% of people on the planet that can drink milk and do the thing with lactos, make it food or something, they have a special dnacode that makes some enxymes "eat" the lactos, those are mostly the nomads, the whole eurpoe some africa and a litle bit of asia.
on the other hand the lower end of africa, austraila and the east chine does not have that dnacode. those people can be allergic to milk, in there stomachs the milk (lactos) is split by the bacterias and they dont need it as much as "we" do. anyone can survive without milk.
if you are more than 2 years or something
