|
|
I've upgraded some gnome packages from 2.6 to 2.6.1 yesterday.
And I have this problem since I did it.
The gnome effect sound doesn't be played any more.
I run gnome-sound-properties, check if I enabled sound server startup and sounds for events in the "General" section.
And in the "sound events" section, after selecting any events and clicking "play" button, the sound doesn't be played.
Is there anybody who has this problem?
## Sorry for bad english. |

Yes, exactly the same problem.
While xmms etc plays fine, the sound effects have gone missing. |

I've had the same problem as well... No idea whats going on. As long as xmms works, however, I'm happy. |

i've the same problem, too..
but startup and logoff sounds work... no effects work, and the play button in the properties dialog doesn't work, too.
"aplay"-ing the sounds works too, so no permission problem. I hope it will be fixed in 2.6.2
weird.... |

i also upgraded gnome. i dont use the sound server or effects but i have noticed that some software will no longer play sound. xmms still works but sdl based games will not even start. they display:
SDL: Audio timeout - buggy audio driver? (disabled)
audio: Bad file descriptor
and cant be killed with ctrl+c
everything worked before. it doesnt seem to matter if gnome is running or not. i tried re emerging sdl and one of the programs that will not start.
im not sure if my problem is related to the yours or not but it seems to be. |

anyone made any progress on this? i have been fiddling around without much luck. used esdcat to check the sound server can play the files and it can so that rules out problems with esound. i'm using alsa dmix for software mixing, but i dont think its relevant.
someone must know why its bust, surely?

yea i've fiddled around in there but you cant delete sounds as far as i cant tell. you can only change them. i cant even find where the settings are stored, have searched all through gconf, with no dice. oh well, i'll keep hunting |
