emerge gnome fails at gnupg

While emerging gnome, the emerge terminated while trying to emerge gnupg 1.2.4. (invalid command line 1 or something like that) I discovered a workaround for the problem and decided to post it for others to see.

After that failed, I tried 1.9.8, and it compiled but eventually got to more parts of gnome that wouldn't compile. So I did a emerge depclean and started over. This time when it failed I tried 1.2.3-r5 but that crashed while compiling too. Finally I tried 1.2.3-r2. That one worked.
