Ok, this is killing me. I have followed the instructions to install Samba on my box. When I tried to set my password I got an error, I apperently have to set some kind of admin password for ldap (not mentioned in the guide). Sure, I'll do that. But I still can't change my password and therefore not start samba. I just want to be able to mount my $HOME from a Windows box. Do I really have to install LDAP to share my freakin files? Someone help me, please... |

First you should run a and choose what options you want to enable or disable, in your case for ldap you should have done: Code: | USE="-ldap" emerge samba |

Thank you for your answer, it makes sense, they just didn't mention that little prerequisite in the guide. I have to email them and ask them to update the guide.
I assume I have to unmerge samba and then merge it again with the new options? |

if you run USE="-ldap" emerge samba it'll install the new one in sandbox, remove the old one, then merge the new one to the system.
so no need to unemerge first |
