|
|
My friend has a Asus p4t533-c and he can't get his network going during the installation... Running ifconfig -all doesn't list any EthX-devices, so he can't bring it up either...
The integrated nic is a "PRO/100 VE Network Connection". I believe he needs the e100-module, but if he tries to load it he gets an error saying that it doesn't exist.
Can anyone help? |

The Intel e100 driver is not in the stock kernel; you have to emerge it separately like so:

Essential tools: gentoolkit eix profuse screen |

Emerge isn't available until he's in the chroot, so 'emerge e100' will only produce an error saying emerge could not be found.
So what to do? |

I had the same problem. I was installing Gentoo for the first time with a new box having the ASUS P4V533-MX with the integrated ethernet port.
I had to buy a separate ethernet pci card ($12.00) for the install. After I got the kernel compiled and modules loaded, I was able to use the onboard port. So i took out the pci card and will save it for the next box I get going. |

Isn't there any other way?
Could I emerge e100 and send him the module, for him to put on a floppy and the load it? |
