I've never seen this before. I just did a new gentoo install
and emerged everything. Things are working allright I guess. But
I did notice something I can't figure out. After going to Xwindows
and leaving back to a text console. The text console is all dimmed
by about 50%. Everything works allright and I can't get the brightness
back without rebooting.

I'm using the same aamazing monitor I always have.
The same graphics card. It never did this before even with this
new install.

Any ideas?

Daniel

perhaps it's an APM related issue?

You could try turning off apm by having it compiled as a module and not inserted to test. Is it perhaps a HP or sony computer?

You are apparantly correct.
It's a really old MB. I have taken out
The APM from the kernel and things are
all right again.

Thanks

Daniel

No problem, glad to help. You can probably edit the title of your original post to say "SOLVED" now. Also, to increase the relevance of your posts to other users using the search function, please include for posterity your motherboard and processor type, also your video card and monitor.

Just in case someone with similar hardware has the same problem and is searching by their hardware type.
