I have a Gateway SOLO 5150 (Pentium II 233 MHz, 96MB RAM) and am trying to install Gentoo/Linux 2004.1.
When the boot process begins using a universal CD for i686, it shows various HW information and stops where the message says
Code:

RAMDISK Compressed image found at block 0
Freeing initrd memory: 1908k freed
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly.
Mounted devfs on /dev
Freeing unused kernel memory: 132k freed
>> Loading modules...
    :: Scanning for uhci...
.
I tried every rational combination of options to get rid of this, to begin with "nousb" of course, nohotplug, nodetect, and with/without "dopcmcia." Yet the process stops there.
I know this machine has worked fine for me with other distributions, such as RedHat, Slackware and some others.
After I searched, all I got with "scanning for uhci" is https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33643. This makes me think it is Gentoo/Linux original problem.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my message.
I managed to boot up, using 1.4 RC2 CDs with nousb option. Then downloaded 2004.1 stage3 tar ball. 2004.0, 1.4 final, 1.4 RC4 did not work either. It seems something has changed in a wrong way from 1.4 RC2 to the next release.
Anyway, the rest of the process just went fine. Now I have a nice router!

You should check the options when booting with 2004.1, pressing with F1 and F2.
