Ok, so I get the linux version of Tribes 2 installed, and it seems to work just fine. Only problem is I can't find any servers.

Of course! I need to patch to latest version! :)

Patch is giving me trouble though. Seg faults.

Ok, so I discover theres an ebuild! Yay! That will take care of everything.

Uninstalled Tribes 2 and the Loki stuff using the Loki uninstaller. Emerged Tribes 2... yep! It installed the cd and applied the patch just fine. I love Gentoo.

But now Tribes 2 wont run!! It worked before! :(

When I start it, it plays the into, then makes me agree to the license agreement, then it says I must "launch the game using the supplied shortcuts" and won't let me continue.

Help! :cry:

[EDIT] Oh, and I tried leaving the .loki folder in my home directory from the previous install and also removing it so a new one is created. Neither worked.

i'm unsure of the exact paths that the ebuild places the files ( check /opt or $which tribes2 )

but from the cd install

Code:
/usr/local/bin/tribes2 -> /usr/local/games/tribes2/t2launch

--i get the same error if i try and launch

Code:
$ /usr/local/games/tribes2/tribes2

hope this helps

Ah!

It was /usr/games/bin/t2launch for me.

Thanks so much though! Probably couldn't have found that on my own. :)

[EDIT] That may have solved my problem, but I just discovered that the update wasn't applied after all. Whoever is responsible for this ebuild, I wonder why they even bothered. Overall, it can't even do as good a job as the much older and more generic loki installer.

It's a pain in the ass to update Tribes 2, because the Loki updater is broken. You have to do some manual extraction. The answers are all in this forum, however. Start doing some searching. Once I updated, everything worked great.

all i did to run the update was

Code:
sh ./tribes2update.forgotname.run --keep --confirm --target t2up8tmp

then
after answering N to a couple questions about running the update ...

cd into the t2upd8tmp dir that was created, edit the update.sh (around line 50-60 I think) and comment out the 5 or 6 lines which was causing the update not to apply....
then run as:

Code:
sh ./update.sh ../tribes2update.forgotname.run

cheesy hack; but it worked.
also search the forums for the update (i found a link @ one time to an updated installer) but IMO it was easier to do the above ....

hope this helps

Yes, I ended up doing somthing similar. In my case though, I replaced the loki_patch binary with a repaired one I downloaded. I like your solution better though. :)

Thanks though for providing an answer!
