External Modem with kernel 2.6 problem

Hello all
I have problem setting up external modem (Supra Express 56K) with kernel 2.6.7. I have been using this modem with kernel 2.4 (The same machine) for a while now and decide to upgrade to 2.6. Anyways,in kernel 2.6, the problem is there is no respond back from modem. I also check by using terminal and using AT command. there is no init string output back when I type ATZ or ATV1 (No 'OK' or any) either. But if I type ATDT3844837 modem seems to dial out to that number. Is there anything that I missing?
I also compile kernel with Serial Driver <*>8250/16550 and compatible serial support

Same problem here... I have gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.7. Nothing happens when I echo a "ATDTxxxxxxx" command to /dev/ttyS1. It does flash the leds a little, and also seems to respond to an "ATZ" command, but it won't dial.

Same machine, modem and phone line, currently up under Win98.

2.6.5 I meant... nobody else having this problem? Have you found any solution?
What motherboard/chipset are you using? I have this on a Soltek motherboard, VIA chipset I believe. Have not had any problems with 2.2 / 2.4 kernels. This is a new install BTW.
