All right, here is the situation. I am booted from the knoppix 3.4 CD because it has the 2.6.X kernel which easily sees my SATA drives and everything else awesome about my brandnew Abit 64bit cpu mobo. Everything runs smooth on the gentoo install guide up until chrooting /mnt/gentoo .

root@ttyp1[gentoo]# chroot /mnt/gentoo/ /bin/bash
chroot: /bin/bash: Exec format error

WTF? Lol, any and all help is appreciated!

Did you untar the right tarball? I mean, the right stagefile?

Also, I think there might be some issues if the knoppix cd uses a 32-bit kernel and you used a 64-bit tarball.

bysin suggested I use a universal stage, such as: http://lug.mtu.edu/gentoo/releases/x86/2004.0/stages/x86/stage1-x86-20040218.tar.bz2

to solve my dilemna, and it worked.

On with the install!
