recently, X has been randomly restarting during idle or usage. it would just crash and send me back to GDM. it doesn't seem to be trigger by anything in particular. in my logs, i see the following.
Code: | May 13 16:49:38 s_dgram@oceanic gdm[6105]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
May 13 16:49:40 s_kernel@oceanic kernel: atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0x7a on isa0060/serio0).
May 13 16:49:40 s_kernel@oceanic kernel: atkbd.c: This is an XFree86 bug. It shouldn't access hardware directly. |
my XFree86.0.log says
Code: | Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting |
has anyone encountered similar errors? or how i should proceed to get more information? thank you.
some info:

Kernel: 2.6.6 w/ win4lin patches
XFree: 4.3.0-r5
KDE: 3.2.2
GCC: 3.3.3-r3
Something odd about GCC:

* sys-devel/gcc
Latest version available: 3.3.2-r5
Latest version installed: 3.3.3-r3

Sorry I have no logs. I can't seem to get a capture of the crash from XFree86's log.
Oh, XFree86.log.old reports:

And something odd about the log header even though I shouldn't have a pre-release version of XFree:

Just wanted to add that this happened only after the latest portage sync and Xfree/KDE/etc updates(all stable release updates).
The only other thing I updated concerning X is the Backing Store option. I enabled it. |

An update of kdelibs-3.2.2 to kdelibs-3.2.2-r1 and a reboot seems to have fixed this problem.
I would say that with the latest world updates and kdelibs-3.2.2-r1, this thread can be labeled solved. |

I lied. A kde-libs update does not help. I just experienced the same crash after a random amount of idling. It just crashes and restarts back to xdm. |
