I installed Gentoo again on my RAID setup, and I used the Software RAID how to in the Documentation section (thx for that one) - perviously this worked like a charm for me, but this time around I had no luck what so ever..
I tried several different filesystems including ext3 and still the boot up fails to mount my root partition.. this is annoying me, I was forced to install Mandrake to post here to ask for help.
I used the Gentoo 1.1 cd to bootstrap from (but used the 1.4rc1 stage1 tarball) - since the new livecd uses all sorts of strange stuff I don't know anything about, and it does not set boot offchip first in the kernel, so my Asus A7V mobo' ATA100 controller (Promise PDC) names the drives hde + hdg instead of hdc + hde (also very annoying).
Now does anyone have ANY idea how to make Gentoo install - I love Gentoo and I want it back on my machine.. do I have to dump my RAID to make it install properly (I should have to - it installed flawlessly before and I didn't change a thing - I know the RAID how to by heart by now).
I'm using a known good kernel configuration on 2.4.19 vanilla that has perviously fueled my RAID.
so for me this is PANIC TIME....please help.. |
