Just got an iPod. love it and all that and works great with gtkpod however when I first plug it in i have to su up and type 'disk -l /dev/sda' until it list the partitions on the drive beore I can mount it. Most of the time it will list them the first time. But why do I have to fdisk -l first? I never had this with my old mp3 player or any other usb mass-storage device.

Any input?

I know it's diffictult to replicate, but I'd like to know if there's any difference when mount doesn't work...

I can say, from personal experiance, that iPods seem to be pretty hit-or-miss as to whether or not the 2.4 kernel series loads the modules they require properly. I can also say that I've been using 2.6 for quite a while now (using mm-sources-2.6.6-r1 currently) and my iPod seems to love the 2.6 series. Why don't you try 2.6 and see if that helps at all?
