Hey all

I'm having quite a bit of trouble with the drivers for my ATI Radeon 9600.

At bootup, when it tries to load fglrx, it gives an error and cannot load it. I forget the exact text of the error, but lsmod doesn't list the module.

But also, both
Code:
# modprobe fglrx
and
Code:
# insmod /lib/modules/2.6.5-gentoo-r1/video/fglrx.ko
both give errors along the line of:
Code:
Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.5-gentoo-r1/video/fglrx.ko): Operation not permitted

Basically, this leaves me using software mesa, here's my output of glxinfo
Code:

The ati-drivers version i'm using is 3.7.6-r1.

I'm wondering if this is a compatibility issue of fglrx with 2.6.5-gentoo-r1? Has anyone else had a similar problem and been able to solve it?

Thanks for any help!

Check the last few lines of "dmesg" output, it usually gives a bit more information.

Thanks for the idea, Wedge

Here's the relevent part of dmesg:

Code:

It looks like I might have some DRM kernel module built in to my kernel that I shouldn't. I'll try to figure that out...

If anyone notices anything else it might be please do tell. Thanks!
