|
|
Of course i read the manuals. But all hints i found don't fit my problem.
In my case, the modem doesn't even try to dial, before it says "NO CARRIER".
I can initialize it, send commands, etc.
But if i try to "ATDT", immediately a "NO CARRIER" is returned.
I first plugged in my telephone-cable, afterwards i tried the fax one. Both the same result.
Any ideas to narrow down to the fault? |

qeldroma,
Which modem do you have?
How do you know you can send it commands? _________________ Regards,

It's an internal Intel ICH4-type. I use it via "slmodem".
I can communicate via the terminal under kppp. All is "ok" there if i try it, except the dialout.. |

qeldroma,
If you sent it ATH1 it should go 'off hook'. Provided the speaker is on, you should hear dial tone. ATH0 makes it hang up again.
If its not configured for your country, it won't be looking for the right dial tone. It can also be confused if you were behind a PBX that uses its own dial tone.
Can you make it blind dial?
What is in your chat script?
Be careful not to post it unedited, since it contains your user name and password in clear text _________________ Regards,

Pheeww, i am not so indebt knowledged in modem-communication.
I will try out the ATH1/0 as soon as possible. How do i set up the country via AT-commands?
Perhaps this is it?
What means dialing blind?
And how do i find the "chat-script"? |

qeldroma,
Dialing blind means not waiting for dial tone before dialing the number, or, more realistically, going off hook, waiting for 3 seconds, and hoping you have dial tone.
A comma will get you a 3 second delay, so ATDT,01234 waits for 3 seconds before dialing 01234. Its intended use was for dialing where you had to wait for a second or even third dial tone. Those days are long gone now but the feature will still be there.
You don't use AT commands to set the country. That is done in the software for the modem somehow.
I have a chat script in /etc/ppp/, its not set to do anything useful. is worth a read. _________________ Regards,
