Hey Guys,
I'm a newbie, after hours of compilation, I managed to install gentoo by stage 1 and finished the command "emerge gnome".
What now then? I tried to execute the "/usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config" and followed by "startx". Yes, X window launched on my Geforce card, but it only show three eterm in cyan color with one small clock on the right hand upper corner - where is my Gnome???!!!
Worse still, I can't get my mouse to work, both in console mode and in the X windows, I end up rebooting the system the 'easy' way by pressing the "reset" button.
Can anyone tell me how am I suppose to do next? My mouse is just an generic ps2 mouse and there is no connection problem as I can duel-boot to my xp.
Please please give me some light so that my two days of effort won't just go wasted.
Thanks a lot. |

Hi, you should take a look at the gentoo desktop guide.

edit your /etc/rc.conf file so it points to the gdm and not the xdm which is the default. |
